A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with ABCD
14th - 23rd May 2011
We welcome you to join us on our journey to the Holy Land. We have planned our programme with McCabe Pilgrimages for May, a lovely time to visit the region and generally very good for touring. We spend four nights in Bethlehem, specially chosen as our base as we visit ABCD projects in the surrounding areas as well as Jerusalem. We then continue to Jericho in the Jordan Valley. Our final three nights are spent in the Galilee at the Tabgha Guest House (Pilgerhaus) - on the lakeside.

ABCD at the Christian Resources Exhibiton, Esher, May 2010

Many thanks to all the volunteers who joined the trustees on the ABCD stand at the CRE this year.

CRE 2010

We had a display of very colourful Palestinian embroidery, beautifully crafted by women with disabilities in Bethlehem, Beit Jala and the surrounding villages.   These lovely pieces along with olive wood holding crosses and cribs, made by the disabled community in the area and using local wood from sustainable sources, attracted much attention. These and the display boards depicting some of the ‘ABCD’ children gave rise to comment and conversation.

Good contacts were made and we noticed that, this year, we were visited by many new faces as well as old friends. A significant number of young people showed an interest in visiting the Holy Land, perhaps as volunteers in gaps years/holiday times. We were pleased to be able to point them in the direction of various groups specialising in these kinds of visits - see www.rediscoveringpalestine.org.uk for more details.

The overall consensus was that it was, once again, a very good week for raising awareness  about our work and for demonstrating solidarity with the Christian community in Palestine. We had many positive and encouraging remarks and hope that visitors left us with a better understanding of the faith, dignity and determination of our Palestinian partners and the continuing need for Christians everywhere to give support to their brothers and sisters living in the Holy Land.

Congratulations to Rima Canawati, ABCD's Children's Services Coordinator at the BASR (Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation).
